Braille Transcription

Braille at VCE

VCE's Braille Transcription Project began in 2008 at the Fluvanna Correction Center for Women (FCCW) it consisted of thirteen inmates meeting twice weekly to learn the basics of braille. Each participant worked to prepare a thirty-five page braille manuscript to be submitted for judging. When the manuscript was judged and accepted, the inmate was certified as a Braille Transcriber by the National Federation of the Blind and the Library of Congress.

A Touch Of Genius

Although Louis Braille developed his system in the 1830's the language of Braille is continusly evolving and requires ongoing education.
