Prescription Eyewear at FCCW
The VCE Optical Lab at the Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women is a full service provider of prescription eyeglass services. VCE Optical is the eyewear provider for VADOC, DJJ, and major Virginia not-for-profit organizations. The VCE Lab provides training as Dispensing Opticians under the Virginia Apprenticeship Council, and works closely with the VADOC Division of Education’s Optical Technologies program.
VCE Optical employs between five and ten offenders, and over seventy women have participated in the program since 2002. The Lab produces over 6,000 pair of Rx eyeglasses annually.
Our Lab uses modern equipment that is often found in optical super-stores, and many of our ex-offenders are employed in private industry.
