Prescription Eyewear

The VCE Optical Lab, based at the Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women, is Virginia’s trusted provider of prescription eyewear—serving state agencies, correctional institutions, juvenile justice facilities, and mission-minded nonprofit partners.

Prescription Eyewear

  • Trusted partner – We’re the primary eyewear vendor for the Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC), Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), and other state entities.
  • High-volume capability with precision – Operating with modern, retail-grade optical equipment, we fulfill over 13,000 jobs annually with consistent quality and accuracy.
  • Mission-aligned workforce development – We incorporate hands-on training for justice-involved individuals (on average 10 participants per year) through a partnership with VADOC’s Optical Technologies program. Many trainees transition into careers in the optical industry.
  • Flexible and advanced offerings – From standard single-vision to bifocal, trifocal, and high-index lenses, plus premium options like anti-reflective coatings, tints, transitions, and more (with medical necessity documentation).
  • Safety-compliant designs – For nonprofits and government users, we offer a wide selection of safety frames (in partnership with Hoya). Inmate options are limited but meet essential safety and durability standards.

Although it can take a little time to receive your order, the furniture is very well made and worth the wait. Also, I was having a hard time finding a stand up desk to fit the size of my regular desk. Karl actually made a trip to Harrisonburg to look at my desk, measure it, and talk with me about options. Then he went back to his office, checked it out, and let me know what they could do. You don’t get that type of service much anymore!
