EMPOWERING FUTURES THROUGH WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT
On May 12th, 2026, Virginia Correctional Enterprises as part of the Virginia Department of Corrections joined Virginia Career Works at Lunenburg Correctional Center for a workforce development event designed to strengthen reentry success for incarcerated individuals. Created and led by VCE Workforce Development Manager Rodney White, the program brought together training experts, career specialists, and VCE inmate staff to focus on one shared mission: preparing returning citizens for meaningful employment and long-term stability. This event is part of an ongoing series hosted at VCE facilities, each one crafted to provide participants hands-on guidance in both the critical soft skills and required industry experience necessary to gain long-term employment post-release. By connecting VCE’s training programs with Virginia Career Works’ employment resources, participants gain a clearer path from incarceration to opportunity.

The impact of this work is unmistakable. VCE inmate staff consistently demonstrate one of the lowest program recidivism rates in the nation, a testament to the power of structured training, real-world job experience, and strong community partnerships. Events like the Lunenburg workforce development session reinforce VCE’s commitment to transforming lives through education, skill-building, and confidence-building.

As we continue this series across the Commonwealth, VCE remains focused on a simple but profound goal: ensuring every participant has the tools, support, and hope needed to succeed the moment they return home.
